The cause of death for Mary Duggar, a grandmother of the Duggar family, was revealed as an accidental drowning.

The news of her death was reported by the Duggar family earlier this week.

Washington County Coroner Roger W. Morris confirmed on June 12 that the 78-year-old accidentally slipped into the pool and drowned, reported People magazine.
Gossip news website Radar Online reported that a 911 call was made of a “possible drowning” at her Arkansas home. The phone call came in at around 4:37 p.m. local time.

“Call came in of a possible drowning at [address redacted]..that’s [address redacted]. Big house in the back … older woman, 14 echo — unconscious. Medics are responding,” the dispatcher reportedly said in the 911 call.

In a statement on June 9, the family confirmed her death on the same day.

“We are so sad to share that Grandma Duggar (Mary) passed away Sunday afternoon, June 9th, 2019. Mary Lester Duggar grew up in Farmington, Arkansas and was married almost 50 years to J.L. (Jimmy Lee) Duggar who preceded her in death,” the post began. “Mary found great joy in sharing her love for Jesus,” the statement said.

She was the grandmother to 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She appeared in reality TV shows about the big family, including “Counting On.”

“Grandma Mary Duggar has been on the TLC shows, 19 Kids & Counting and Counting On with her family for over 15 years. She is greatly loved and will be missed so very much! She lived a tremendous life as a follower of Christ, a wife, a devoted mother, a loving mother-in-law, and a much-loved grandmother,” the tribune continued.

The post concluded, “We deeply appreciate your prayers for our family and all who loved Mary during this time.”

Other members of the family issued their own statements following her passing.

“My heart breaks,” granddaughter Jill Dillard wrote on Instagram. “My grandma died suddenly today! She was an amazing woman of God and such a great example to so many!”

The post added, “I know she was ready to check outta here and get her new body in heaven before the old one started giving her too much trouble! We miss you so much!!”

In a blog post published the day after her death, Dillard added, “I was in disbelief when I got the word that she had tragically died. I’m still having a hard time processing the reality of her passing.”

Jana Duggar said that she attended church just hours before her death. She said, “I’d say that’s probably how she would’ve chosen to finish out the day if she got to pick.”
Joy Duggar and husband Austin Forsyth also wrote: “06/09/19 Grandma Duggar… She was a strong woman, role model, godly counselor… and my favorite person to watch ‘The Price is Right’ show with. She is GREATLY loved & missed! Thank you all for your kind words and prayers for our family!”

“She was so excited about the many new great-grandbabies due this coming fall and winter, and it never got old for her. She welcomed each new baby with joy and would hold them with such tenderness and delight,” Jessa Seewald, another granddaughter, wrote in an Instagram picture of Mary holding baby Ivy this week. “We’re sad that they will not have the blessing of knowing her in person as we have.”
