Reporter finds man: A man with dementia who went missing in Maine earlier this week was found by a reporter and news crew reporting on his disappearance.

Robert McDonough, 73, walked by a WMTW-TV news crew as they were live on the air. He turned up in the background of the shot, according to ABC News.

Reporter Norm Karkos realized that McDonough, who went missing on Monday from his Limington home, was the missing person he was reporting on. He notified the Maine Warden Service.

“We believe he had wandered into the woods adjacent to his home,” said John MacDonald, with the Maine Warden Service, according to ABC News.

MacDonald said the man, who was found Tuesday morning, was in good condition despite spending a night outside.

“We probably would have found him eventually, but it’s difficult to search at night, and we’re very thankful he was found alive,” said MacDonald, who added that K-9 dogs and a helicopter were dispatched.

In a video posted of the incident, Krakos appears to not recognize the man at first.

“Sometimes, timing is everything,” Karkos said. “Good news, and a happy ending right now, the gentleman behind us is Robert McDonough.”
