Report: Teen Arrested in Deadly Shooting After Jacksonville Football Game

2 dead in recent shootings near high school football games in 3 states

A teenager was arrested for a deadly shooting after a football game in Jacksonville, Florida.

The shooting took place on the night of Aug. 24 at Raines High School, leaving one dead and two wounded, reported News4Jax on Aug. 28, citing anonymous sources. The name of the suspect, who is 16 years old, was not released.

The teen will be charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder, the report said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it will hold a news conference about the arrest.

Police said that the shooting after the football game appears to be gang-related.

Joerod Adams, 19, was shot and killed. A 16-year-old girl who goes to Lee High School and a 17-year-old boy who goes to Raines High School were also shot, said police.

In the shooting, there were approximately 4,000 people attending the game, the Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

High School Football Shootings

On Aug. 17, a week before that shooting, gunfire erupted at William T. Dwyer High School in Palm Beach County.  “This shooting WAS NOT a random act of violence,” said the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office at the time.  Two people were wounded in the incident, according to The Epoch Times.

The Sun-Sentinel reported there were two shooters who opened fire at William T. Dwyer High School.

“The people that were involved in the shooting were looking for these two individuals,” Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said at a press conference on Aug 18.

“Now, they had some information that they very well might be at the football game but they could have been at a bowling alley. … These type of things, because of the people that are involved in it, happen at a time and a place where they can find each other.”

On Aug. 24, police in Rockford, Illinois, said shots were fired near Auburn High School during a football game. Police said that it is believed that gunfire was exchanged between two cars, and the incident wasn’t related to the football game, WREX reported.

In Fairfield, California, near San Francisco, a shooting killed one teenager and critically wounded another on Aug. 24, police said, according to ABC News.

The incident occurred outside of Armijo High School, where high school football game was being held. Police placed the school on lockdown, ABC reported.

Duval County Public Schools Superintendent Diana Greene was at the game between Raines High School and Lee High School. Both schools are part of Duval County Public Schools.

“For it to end in violence like this is unfortunate, and quite frankly, we should all be saying ‘unacceptable,’” Greene told ABC. “Our security procedures for football games were in place, the incident, unfortunately, happened after the game was over.”

“This is a community issue,” Greene told Fox News. “I need parents, students to stand up. If you see something, say something.”

“This is evidence that there is a community issue that has to be addressed, and one of those issues includes access to guns,” said Paula Wright, who is a school board member in Jacksonville, according to Fox.
