Former Fox News and current NBC host Megyn Kelly might be vying for the vacant spot on the “Today” show created by Matt Lauer’s sudden dismissal.

Kelly, who hosts the 9 a.m. hour of NBC’s “Today” program, is looking to secure the spot, sources told the New York Post.

Lauer was terminated from his 20-year job as co-host of the popular morning program last week over allegations of sexual misconduct. He issued an apology statement, which was read out on the show the next day.

Kelly, who was a Fox News anchor for 12 years, invited Lauer onto her show.

“You don’t want to be getting that explicit about a colleague that you worked with 24 hours ago, [and] these are pointed questions about NBC management,” she said, according to People magazine. “But that’s how we’re going to report here for you at NBC, because that’s our commitment to bring you the truth and to do a full and fair investigation of this story as it comes to us.”

“As hard as it to report on one of our own colleagues, we remain committed to telling people’s stories if they choose to come forward, and the women in this case, too … are invited and welcome to do exactly that on this show,” she said. “We have been that place in all of the other cases and we will be that place as well for the accused, here on this hour.”

The Post reported that one insider said Kelly doesn’t want the job. Meanwhile, Entertainment Tonight reported that several sources said that Kelly won’t be Lauer’s replacement, and the ET report says the network does have a replacement in mind.

“The network likes Megyn in her current role,” one source told ET. “The rumor around the Today show offices is that Willie Geist could be the one to replace Matt.”

Geist, 42, has filled in for Lauer in the past. He hosts “Sunday Today.”

A complaint made by an unnamed female colleague last Monday night was a “clear violation” by Lauer, 59, of the company’s standards, NBC News chairman Andrew Lack said in a statement last week in announcing his termination. “While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over twenty years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident,” Lack said, Reuters reported.
