Sen. Bernie Sanders purchased a $600,000 summer home in Vermont last week, a local newspaper reported on Monday.

In a statement, Sen. Sanders’ wife, Jane, confirmed they bought the home on the Champlain Islands, located near the Canadian border.

“We’ve traveled up to the islands many times over the years—almost always on day trips,” she said in a statement to local newspaper Seven Days. “The entire family is very excited about it.”

Sanders will use the home seasonally.

“We’ve always been impressed with the North Hero community, eaten at the North Hero House and Shore Acres and have suggested them to friends who were looking for a beautiful place to stay or have dinner. St. Anne’s Shrine in Isle La Motte is my favorite church and it is nearby,” Jane Sanders added.

“My family had a lake home in Maine since 1900, but we hadn’t had the time to go there in recent years — especially since my parents passed away,” she added. “We finally let go of it and that enabled us to buy a place in the islands — something I’ve always hoped for. ”

The new waterfront house has four bedrooms and 500 feet of beachfront property, located in the town of North Hero. The town has a population of 803, according to the 2010 census.

Seven Days reported that some residents of the small community are excited Sanders is moving there. “We couldn’t ask for a nicer person to move in—that’s my opinion,” town select board member Eileen Mitchell said.

Sanders also owns a row house on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., along with a home in Burlington, Vermont. City property records show the Burlington home is worth around $321,000.

Update: Added additional quote from Jane Sanders about purchase in Maine.
