Rep. Greg Steube in Hospital After Sustaining ‘Several Injuries’

The office of Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) asked the public to pray for him after he sustained injures and was hospitalized.

The incident took place at the 44-year-old lawmaker’s property late afternoon on Wednesday.

In a statement on Twitter, Steube’s team announced that he “has sustained several injuries.”

“We will provide additional updates when possible. Please pray for the Congressman and his family.”

Steube, a third-term lawmaker, was transported to a hospital in Sarasota, Florida, reported Florida Politics.

According to the outlet, a staffer to Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.) found Steube at his home. The staffer was in the neighborhood doing part-time delivery work.

“The Sarasota Republican was reportedly doing routine home maintenance and apparently fell from his roof about 25 feet to the ground,” according to the report.

Steube lives in Sarasota with his wife and son, according to his biography on the congressional website.

‘Doing Well’

Christian Ziegler, currently the vice chairman of the Florida Republican Party, and a former Sarasota County Commissioner, shared an update following Steube’s hospital admission.

“I just heard that even though Congressman @RepGregSteube is still in the hospital, he is doing well. Big relief to hear,” Ziegler wrote. “Our country, state & local community needs him to recover and get back to fighting for us in Congress ASAP.”

Steube and Buchanan represent adjacent congressional districts—Florida’s 17th and 16th congressional districts, respectively—and both are on the House Ways and Means Committee for the 118th Congress.

“Horrible to hear about [Steube]’s accident earlier today,” Buchanan said on Twitter late Wednesday. “Sandy and I are keeping him and his family in our thoughts and prayers and wishing him a very speedy recovery.”

Steube is a new member of the House Ways and Means Committee, along with nine other Republicans who are also new members.

Rep. Jason Smith (R-Mo.) its new chairman, called Steube a “patriot and fierce advocate for the freedoms of all Americans” and said the committee is “fortunate to welcome him during this critical time for our country.”

“He will undoubtedly be a valuable leader in fighting for a stronger economy that will support working families, lower taxes, and promote investment in America—a much-needed change after two years of Democrat one-party rule in Washington,” Smith said.

Steube was first elected as a U.S. Representative in 2018. He was re-elected to the House in November 2022 with over 63 percent of the vote. Prior to joining Congress, he served for 2 years in the Florida Senate and 6 years in the Florida House, according to his biography. Before being involved in politics, Steube served in the U.S. Army in Iraq.
