Hours after Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) announced Thursday that his Richmond office had been shot at, supposedly related to his vote on health care legislation, Richmond police concluded the shot was from “random gunfire,” reported CNN.

The case had been under investigation in connection with recent threats against Cantor and his family. Recent phone and e-mail threats mentioned gun violence. Cantor, who is the second-highest ranked Republican in the House, previously accused Democrats of publicizing the threats against them for political reasons.
