Remembering the Dumbells: Canada’s WWI Soldiers-Entertainers
Comprised of a group of soldiers during the First World War, the Dumbells were formed to boost the troops’ morale during the war through their music and theatrical sketches. Responsible for the first and most successful concert parties, the Dumbells reunited after the war, touring the country and becoming the first Canadian show on Broadway. Their irreverent humour was the inspiration for sketch comedy shows such as "Monty Python" and "Saturday Night Live." On June 15, 2013, Juno Award-winning musician and author Jason Wilson will reimagine the Dumbells’ performances with a theatrical concert at Hugh’s Room in Toronto.
