MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. —Authorities say human remains discovered in a wooded lot have been identified as those of a Myrtle Beach man and former New York man reported missing in late September.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports Horry Count police found the remains of 51-year-old Timothy Francis Buckley on Thursday.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge says Buckley was identified through dental records and jewelry. He says he believes the cause of death is homicide.

He was last seen Sept. 28 as headed toward his camper at Springmaid Resort.

Local media in New York report Buckley was a former town council member and police officer in Riverhead, New York, located in Suffolk County on the north shore of Long Island.
