Remains Found in California Believed to Be Missing Actress

Police officers in California found a body in a shallow grave that they believe is missing actress and model Adea Shabani.

The 25-year-old was last seen in Hollywood on Feb. 23, having recently moved to the United States from Macedonia to pursue a modeling and acting career.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office told CBS that detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department discovered the grave in Dry Creek in the Spenceville Wildlife Area.

The location is about 50 miles north of Sacramento.

An autopsy is planned on Wednesday to confirm the identity of the body.

At this point and time, we believe that those remains are the body of Ms. Adea Shabani,” William Hayes, commanding officer of LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division, said at a press conference, reported the NY Daily News. “We cannot say that conclusively at this point in time because the condition of the remains prohibited positive identification. We believe this to be a homicide.”

A suspect in the case, 33-year-old Christopher Spotz, was killed himself during a standoff with law enforcement officials on March 22.

The chase and standoff started when San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies ran a license plate check and discovered Spotz was driving a stolen pickup truck that had been reported as having “possibly been used in a homicide which had occurred in Los Angeles County,” a California Highway Patrol statement obtained by the Mercury News said.

Spotz attended the same acting academy as Shabani and may have been her boyfriend.

After Shabani went missing last month, her family hired a detective and her mother flew in from Macedonia.

Friends had urged anyone with information to come forward, noting that the woman, who was typically a prolific user of social media, hadn’t posted anything online.

“We tried calling her, messaging her, emailing her, Facebooking her, Instagramming her—every way, nothing,” said Antonio Esocvar, a friend.

Shabani was described as 5'5” and weighing around 130 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.
