Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Monday that pass-rushing linebacker Brian Orakpo and defensive end Adam Carriker suffered season-ending injuries in Sunday’s 31–28 loss to the Rams, according to a report on the NFL’s website.

Orakpo tore his left pectoral while Carriker suffered a quad tendon tear.

Both are starters on Washington’s front seven defense though the loss of Orakpo, the 13th overall pick of the 2009 draft is especially damaging. “He can do it all,” Shanahan said of the two-time Pro Bowl selection Orakpo. “He’s everything you look at in a Pro Bowl linebacker.”

The loss of Carriker, the 13th overall selection in the 2007 draft, will force the Redskins to use backup lineman Chris Baker, while Rob Jackson and Chris Wilson will compete to fill Orapko’s shoes.
