Red Velvet Oreos have left Twitter and Facebook abuzz, with some claiming the cookies will be coming on Valentine’s Day.

However, Nabisco has not confirmed the existence of any “Red Velvet Oreos” and it appears to be made up.

Images of the Oreos were being shared on Facebook and Twitter this week.

“Yo if those red velvet oreos actually exist, I tap out son. That’s it. I quit the health game. I will consume entire packages,” one person wrote.

Said another, “Uhm ........ there’s red velvet Oreos?”

“Guessing the amount of chemicals in those new red velvet cheesecake Oreos is equal to an entire refinery,” wrote another.

“I’m a little skeptical of the red velvet Oreos. Only because Oreo is trying to out-Doritos Doritos when it comes to staying in their lane,” said another.

It was later confirmed by a group of marketing students at Texas State University they were behind the image.

“Sorry y'all this was just for a school project... #marketingmajors,” the group’s Facebook said.

Said one person, “8 months they kept this charade only to be joking? You sick bastards!”

Added another: “Well you need to get to making these.”

According to Snopes.com, Nabisco has released several interesting seasonal varieties of Oreo brand cookies in recent years (e.g., Pumpkin Spice, Candy Corn, Watermelon); and according to an October 2014 viral photo, Red Velvet Oreos will be the next variation to hit store shelves. Nabisco has not made any official announcement regarding Red Velvet Oreos, but the Internet seems convinced that the new flavor will hit store shelves in time for Valentine’s Day 2015.”
