The Boston Red Sox and DH David Ortiz finally agreed to a 1-year deal just hours before a scheduled arbitration hearing on Monday, according to a report on the team’s website. The deal is worth $14.575 million—exactly the halfway point between what Ortiz wanted ($16.5 million) and what the team offered ($12.65 million).

“The best DH in the game—that guy’s back on the team,” said Cherrington last month, according to the report.

Ortiz, 36, is a seven-time All-Star who has won five Silver Slugger Awards and has finished in the top five of the MVP voting five times in his career. The left-handed slugger has spent the last nine seasons with the Red Sox. Last season, Ortiz hit .309 with 29 home runs and 96 RBIs.
