The red line of death is appearing on a spate of PS4 systems, frusterating early buyers of the system.

The red line, or blinking red lights, are appearing on the systems and are not letting owners use the system properly.

“I got a RLoD from overheating because the fan never turned on,” said a user on the forum NeoGAF.

“Was able to get a refund at Best Buy, but everywhere is sold out, so I basically froze outside for 6 hours for nothing. Never even put a game in it.”

Sony says in its user manual that the red blinking light means the system is overheating. If the red light starts blinking, it advises people to turn off the system and wait until a later time to use it.

But users are saying that the light means the system doesn’t work at all, primarily that the fans don’t kick in at all.

Sony says that the problem is impacting less than 0.4 percent of devices, and the company is replacing any devices with the problem.

If your PS4 has the problem, call Sony at 1-800-345-SONY (1-800-345-7669).

Another problem, the “Blinking Blue Light,” is normal, but users experiencing an HDMI problem “are correlating the blinking blue light with the console’s inability to display video,” reported Ps4Daily.

As for the red line of death problem, the blog says:

“Red is an obvious selection for an error color/display, but I have to wonder if the choice was at all debated. Microsoft’s ‘Red Ring of Death’ issue was such a widespread embarrassment that it’s the last last example you’d want to follow. Thankfully the problem is happening to such a small percentage of people that we’re not concerned. However, we hope one or two years down the road, the issue doesn’t become widespread.

“Sony’s launch day difficulties have been well documented, but considering the scale of the release and number of units sold, we hold the firm belief that it went pretty darn well.”
