The Baltimore Ravens signed franchised-tagged running back Ray Rice to a five-year $35 million contract Monday, according to a report on the NFL’s website. With incentives the deal could be worth as much as $40 million.
Players who were designated franchise players had until 4 p.m. EDT Monday to sign long-term contracts with their respective teams.
“This is another example of Steve Bisciotti’s commitment to the team and to our fans to retain our core players,” Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said. “(Rice’s) production on the field speaks for itself, and his leadership in the locker room is outstanding.”
Rice, who enters his fifth season in the league, is a two-time Pro-Bowl selection and has amassed more than 1,200 rushing each of the last three seasons.
