Raúl González has left Univision’s “Despierta America” after years on the daytime program.
His lengthy stint there earned praise from Alberto Giurana, president of programming at Univision.
“Thank you for these 12 years @Raultvgonzalez we respect your decision to give up @DespiertaAmeric you stay in our hearts,” Giurana said via Twitter.

Gonzalez left in a tearful goodbye.
”I am leaving because I want to take a break, I am leaving with the illusion of doing new things. You know that human beings complete cycles and the same way I arrived 13 years ago to ‘Despierta América’ and I fulfilled the dream of working here, as a human being I want to find new horizons,” he said.
“I want to make it clear that from my heart I leave the loveliest and happiest family that I’ve had had in my career. I want to thank everyone, if I name all of them I will not have time,” he said.
A source told Huffington Post that Gonzalez didn’t want to leave but wasn’t happy with the contract he was offered.
In August of last year, he told La Opinion that he would give important news in about five months.
“This is a key year for me to undertake new goals, new projects. There is a saying, which I share with people: ‘The past is history, the future is a mystery, today is a gift and that’s why they call this.’ So I take my life one day at a time. There are many things to do that are knocking on the door and I think that soon they will not give … I mean what is coming, but what comes … amen! It is very important and since I’m already celebrating.”
Gonzalez also indicated last year that he thought he could be the successor to Sabado Gigante on “Giant Saturday.”
