Rapper Nipsey Hussle Shot Dead Near Los Angeles Clothing Store

Rapper Nipsey Hussle was shot dead at the age of 33 in South Los Angeles on March 31, and two others were injured, NBC reported.

The shooting took place at 3:20 p.m. local time outside of a clothing store owned by Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, it was reported. Asghedom’s store, The Marathon Clothing Company, is located on Slauson Ave. just west of Crenshaw Blvd.

Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department said there is an ongoing investigation. No suspects have been detained, and a suspect or suspects remained at large.

Hussle was was pronounced dead at the hospital, it was reported. Other details about the incident are not clear.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James tweeted about the rapper’s death.

Several hours before the shooting, he tweeted: ”Having strong enemies is a blessing.”

Matthew Talley was one of many who gathered in the South Los Angeles area on Sunday to mourn the musician. He told NBC: “It ain’t just Los Angeles. He was an inspiration that was bigger than Los Angeles. You see all these people out here?”

Pitchfork reminisced about the life and career of the rapper, and noted that he had ties to a subset of the Crips street gang.

“Raised in the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles, Nipsey left his parents’ home at age 14, living with his grandmother and joining the Rollin’ 60s, a subset of the Crip gang. He began releasing music in 2005, putting out a series of mixtapes that earned him attention from other notable artists. He released a collaboration with Drake (“Killer”) in 2009 and appeared on Snoop Dogg’s Malice ‘N Wonderland album the following year,” the report said.

Asghedom had publicly acknowledged his ties to the Crips in an interview with Complex in 2010.

His album, “Victory Lap” was nominated for Best Rap Album during the 2019 Grammy Awards.
