Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington has agreed to a two-year extension that will keep him with the team through the 2014 season. Only Angels manager Mike Scioscia is signed for more years (through 2018) among managers.

“It’s a very happy day for all the Rangers,” General Manager Jon Daniels said, according to a release on the team’s website. “You can’t find a manager more beloved in the community and the organization than Ron. He has been a huge part of our success.”

Washington, 59, enters his sixth season as the team’s skipper in 2012. He has led the Rangers to back-to-back American League Pennants the previous two seasons.

This season may prove to be Washington’s most difficult yet, as he will be dealing with a new ace on the staff, Japan’s Yu Darvish, following the departure of previous ace C.J. Wilson.
