Prominent celebrities welcomed Ralph Lauren’s first Australian Pink Pony 10th Anniversary Sydney Walk, at Centennial Park early on the spring morning of Wednesday, Sept. 22.
Every year Ralph Lauren encourages his staff to walk around Central Park in New York as part of the Pink Pony Campaign, and this was how the The Pink Pony Sydney Walk was inspired. The campaign aims to raise awareness of breast cancer and reduce disparities in cancer care in under-served communities. 2010 marks Sydney’s first year in support of the foundation.
Marketing Director of Oroton Group Janine Garner, who joined the walk through Centennial Park, stressed the importance of luxury brands supporting philanthropic causes.
“Today we have been walking in support of Ralph Lauren’s Pink Pony campaign. It’s the inaugural walk for Sydney as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Ralph Laurens’s Pink Pony Foundation,” she said.
To date, Pink Pony Australia has raised more than $650,000 to help support local nurses and communities across the country.
Australian designer Carla Zampatti also attended the event and feels fortunate she has not personally experienced breast cancer. She said she really empathises with the many people she knows who have.
Ms Zampatti felt the Pink Pony Walk event to be a very uplifting and meaningful cause, as well as a healthy activity with family and friends. She hopes more events like this will happen regularly.
Miss Russia 2010, Irina Antonenko, just jetted into Sydney this week to celebrate the one-year anniversary Russian Standard Vodka in Australia. She was very happy to participate in the walk and be among people who support breast cancer victims, she told The Epoch Times.
Ms Antonenko is enjoying her visit to Australia and hopes this morning’s event will help raise a lot of money.
Another participant, Michelle Bridges, personal trainer on the Australia’s The Biggest Loser feels the cause is close to her heart as breast cancer runs in her family. Her aunt recently passed away from the disease so this was something she really wanted to take a stand on, she said.
Ms Bridges appreciated the fact the event incorporates exercise “which is right up my alley,” she said, adding that it was nice to be out in Centennial Park going for a walk and raising awareness for a good cause.
Around 160 people joined the walk, finishing with an Aussie bacon roll in the spring sunshine. The Pink Pony Foundation looks forward to making this an annual event.
