Railway Express Direct to Lhaza Tibet Starts in October

CHINA—China’s Ministry of Railway (MOR) announced that a direct railway express service will commence operation for passengers travelling from Shanghai and Guangzhou to Lhaza, the capital city of Tibet.

The direct railway express service from Shanghai to Lhaza will begin on October 1 at the start of the long golden holidays in China. The 52-hour train ride will depart every second day. The Guangzhou to Lhaza line will start operation on October 2, and the journey taking approximately 57-hours.

In order to purchase tickets, the current regulations in China require that foreigners need the correct travel documents to be obtained from the foreign affair departments at the local government Office of Tibet, or Ministry of Tourism, or Ministry of Commerce.

According to the MOR, since the Tibet Railway started on July 1, it has carried 450,000 passengers and 10,000 tons of cargo.
