Rachel Poole, who was stabbed by soldier Corey Bernard Moss in El Paso, Texas, has given birth to a baby girl.
Poole remains in the hospital in critical condition. The baby, Isabella, was born in good health.
Rachel’s husband, Justin Pele Poole, returned home early from being overseas to be with his wife and daughter. Justin is in the Army.
Police say Moss, 19 attacked Rachel Poole inside of her home, on the 4900 block of Wichita in El Paso, and stabbed her multiple times in the face and body.
The victim, 31, was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, having suffered several fractures from the stabbings.
Police say that Moss owed the woman money for vehicle repairs, and that he admitted to stabbing her.
Rachel’s stepfather Gary Jones told ABC that Isabella, the baby, was born following a c-section.
Rachel’s mother Rebecca Jones declined to comment on her daughter’s condition but said Isabella is “in good health.”
Poole had a C-section scheduled for next week but doctors couldn’t do anything with her injuries unless they got Isabella out, Gary Jones said.
Brett Lively, a friend of Rachel’s husband who is in the Army, writes on a page where people are donating money to Rachel and her husband that Rachel is still in critical condition. Rachel is blind in her left eye, has a broken arm, and had to get stitches, the friend said.
Jones added the Poole may need eye socket reconstruction, but doctors are waiting for swelling in the eye to go down. Additionally, one of Poole’s vertebrae was out of place following the attack, and she suffered a collapsed lung.
“Rachel Poole is fighting to beat this,” her husband said via Facebook.
Previously he had written:
“My wife is my wife til I’m no longer breathing,” he said. “No man can change that and though I was not here to protect her this time it will never happen again that’s my word.”
He added: “Honestly if you are writing me telling how nice a guy moss is. Stop. Bottom even if you put him trying to kill her aside and my unborn child. No man should beat up a female. So just stop your making me sick. Honestly. And just making me more pissed off.”
Brett Lively, the friend of Rachel’s husband who is in the Army, said the he was Justin’s roommate for 5 months overseas and Justin “never missed a night without Face timing or Skyping Rachel.”
