TORONTO—Live Green Toronto will be presenting live band performances and over 100 green exhibitors at its all day festival Saturday, July 16th, between 11am and 8pm at Yonge-Dundas Square.

“The festival was first established in 2006 to showcase the cities green initiatives, such as green roofs, parks and water efficiencies,” said Nancy Ruscica, manager of partnership and innovations, with the Toronto Environment Office.

She said this years festival will “showcase businesses that are leading the way in selling green products, providing green services and bring them all into one event, together where people can meet them in a fun and lively atmosphere.”

Among the exhibitors is Swapcity which will be running the swap zone. People can come with their old CDs and DVDs and receive a token per CD or DVD to use to get another CD or DVD they would like. The remaining CDs and DVDs will be donated to Goodwill at the end of festival.

The band performance will begin at 12:30PM and run throughout the day. Some of the bands expected to perform are Done with Dolls, Neverest, Tyler Medeiros, Meaghan Smith, God Made Me Funky, Classified, DJ Skratch Bastid and more.

Live Green will merge with the 39th Festival of India for awhile at 1PM when India Festival will parade through Yonge-Dundas square and put on a free vegetarian feast and Yoga meltdown. The Festival of India will continue on at Centre Island.

This is the first time the Festival of India will be joining the event stated Ruscica.

Live Green will also feature a kid zone at Dundas Square.

“Kids can come and play water powered piano, paint murals, turn trash into music, plant seeds and meet some interesting creatures,” said Ruscica.

Some of those creatures are the worms that will be on display in Cathy’s Crawly Composters.

Vermicomposting uses a special type of worm to produce “nutritional rich fertilizer” from household garbage.

People looking for more information can visit LivegreenToronto.ca, a portal where residents can find information about programs in Toronto as well as provincial and federal programs, said Ruscica.

It includes information about how to get a grant to do a green project in your neighbourhood, green events, and rebates.
