A reporter who was on the scene during weekend protests at Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s Maryland house described the situation as “one of the scariest things” he’s witnessed amid increasing reports of violence across the United States following the leak of a draft opinion suggesting the court may overturn Roe v. Wade.
“I did not see Justice Kavanaugh. My hope is that he wasn’t home. My hope is that he was safe with his family somewhere else because it was genuinely one of the scariest things I’ve ever witnessed,” he said.
Protesters were seen gathered at what appeared to be Kavanaugh’s home in Montgomery County on Saturday evening, according to footage that was posted online. Blair, who was filming the incident, alleged that the demonstrators outside his home were more “negative” than protesters who demonstrated at other justices’ homes.
“We are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don’t like,” Thomas said at a conference. “We can’t be an institution that can be bullied into giving you just the outcomes you want. The events from earlier this week are a symptom of that,” he added.
It came days after a draft opinion authored by Justice Samuel Alito was leaked to the press suggesting the court would overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which both argued that a woman has a constitutional right to obtain an abortion.
Chief Justice John Roberts, who confirmed the authenticity of the draft, pledged that the Supreme Court would investigate the incident.
