A group of Black Lives Matter protesters and counter-demonstrators in Dallas made an unexpected move.

“We all matter, hell,” said counter-protester Chris Rice in a widely shared video.

The protesters engaged counter-demonstrators and hugged. The demonstrations were held after five police officers were shot and killed in Dallas.

“This is how you break down the walls,” one person said off-camera.

“It’s time for us to stop ... no more walls,” said another. “Today, we’re going to show the rest of the country how we came together.”

They also prayed for the city of Dallas. A police officer who kept the groups separate also joined them in the circle.

The moment was captured on video and posted by CNN.

On Tuesday, President Obama arrived in Dallas in an attempt to provide words of consolation at a time when the country is reeling from the recent attack on police.

“It’s been a tough week for our country,” Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary, told reporters on July 11. “And the president recognizes that it’s not just people in Dallas who are grieving, but people all across the country who are concerned about the violence that so many Americans have witnessed in the last week or so.”
