CHICAGO—The Midwest High Speed Rail Association (MHSRA) has proposed a high speed rail line that would link Chicago to St. Louis, and serve Kankakee, Champaign-Urbana, and Decator along the way.
The 220-miles-per-hour rail would cost as much as $12 billion.
To analyze the project fully, MHSRA is seeking $10 million from the Illinois Recovery Arts funds to research the project, according to a MHSRA press statement
Based on U.S. Department of Transportation figures, high speed rail transportation uses a tenth of the fuel used by car travel and could create up to 170,000 permanent jobs, according to the MHSRA press statement.
