A prominent downtown New York City business association, the Old Seaport Alliance, has named Whitney Barrat as its new executive director.

The Alliance was founded in the wake of Superstorm Sandy by Marco Pasanella, who owns Pasanella Vintners on South Street in Lower Manhattan. Pasanella is also on the Seaport/Waterfront Committee of Manhattan’s Community Board 1.

Many businesses in the Seaport area were devastated by Superstorm Sandy and it has been limping back to recovery over the past 18 months. The non-profit Old Seaport Alliance promotes local businesses and uses public programming and markets to create a greater sense of community in the area. It is often characterized as feeling a bit “cut off” from the rest of the downtown area. .

Barrat’s work history include consulting with the Alliance for Downtown New York, Montague Street Business Improvement District. She is a graduate of New York University, according to LinkedIn.
