Jose Hernandez was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child after his arrest in Conroe on Jan. 12. Officials said he was trying to flee to Mexico when he was captured.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, authorities learned when serving a search warrant on Hernandez’s home in Conroe that he was trying to flee and they widened the investigation to a second home as part of the effort to locate him.
Investigators with the office, along with special agents with the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Marshals Service, located Hernandez and apprehended him.
The sheriff’s office said that Hernandez is in the country illegally and has been deported back to Mexico multiple times, meaning he was already a criminal for committing the felony crime of re-entering the United States after being deported.
Hernandez is being held at the Montgomery County Jail and ICE has placed a hold on him; once he’s worked his way through the court system, he will be deported again.
Trump Addresses Illegal Immigrant Crime
President Donald Trump has been making the case recently in his push for the southern border wall that not only are vulnerable migrants preyed upon as they make their way north but criminals who are able to enter the country illegally commit a number of crimes in the United States.
“In the last two years, ICE officers made 266,000 arrests of aliens with criminal records, including those charged or convicted of 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes, and 4,000 violent killings. Over the years, thousands of Americans have been brutally killed by those who illegally entered our country, and thousands more lives will be lost if we don’t act right now,” the president said during a Jan. 8 speech to the nation.
“America’s heart broke the day after Christmas when a young police officer in California was savagely murdered in cold blood by an illegal alien, who just came across the border. The life of an American hero was stolen by someone who had no right to be in our country,” he added, citing a number of other crimes confirmed or allegedly committed by illegal aliens.
“Over the last several years, I’ve met with dozens of families whose loved ones were stolen by illegal immigration. I’ve held the hands of the weeping mothers and embraced the grief-stricken fathers. So sad. So terrible. I will never forget the pain in their eyes, the tremble in their voices, and the sadness gripping their souls,” he said. “How much more American blood must we shed before Congress does its job?”
In addition to the criminals themselves, he noted, organizations smuggle huge quantities of drugs over the border.
“This barrier is absolutely critical to border security. It’s also what our professionals at the border want and need,” Trump said. “This is just common sense. The border wall would very quickly pay for itself. The cost of illegal drugs exceeds $500 billion a year, vastly more than the $5.7 billion we have requested from Congress.”
