The Pretty Little Liars midseason finale is set to air on August 26.
Episode 12 is titled Taking This One to the Grave.
“With Alison leading them down a dangerous path and ‘A’ barring them from telling the police the truth, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer feel trapped and are desperate to find a way out of this mess. With nothing else to lose, could the PLLs lose everything by putting their faith in a possibly untrustworthy ally?” the official description says.
“Meanwhile, Alison begins to build up her own army now that the PLLs have turned their back on her.”
The show is scheduled to return in December 2014 for a special Christmas-themed episode titled How the ‘A’ Stole Christmas. The exact date has yet to be revealed.
There may be another short break until the remaining episodes start sometime in early January 2015.
The date for the show to return in January also hasn’t been revealed but all prior seasons have started back up within the first two weeks of January, often in the first week.
After the show returns, there are five episodes left.
The midseason finale takes place on Thanksgiving so the Christmas episode will include a jump ahead to two days before Christmas.
Showrunner Marlene King told Entertainment Weekly that the finale is “shocking” and will include a death.
“Whenever a beloved character or a character that fans appreciate dies, it shakes our world, and the fallout of this death is really what the show is about for the next 13 episodes, including Christmas,” she said.
Meanwhile, Pretty Little Liars has been renewed for a season 6 and a season 7.
“‘Pretty Little Liars’ has taken its place in the zeitgeist and reigns supreme in pop culture,” said Tom Ascheim, president of ABC Family, in the announcement. “I am glad to bring another two seasons to our audience because ‘A’ has a lot in store for our Liars.”
Season 6 will begin airing mid-2015 while season 7 will start airing about a year later.
