President Trump Responds to Arrest of Suspect in Packaged Pipe Bombs

President Donald Trump praised law enforcement for finding a suspect so quickly in the apprehension of a person linked to the suspicious packages that have been sent to high-profile figures this week.

“I am pleased to inform you that law enforcement has apprehended the suspect and taken him into custody,” he said to applause from the crowd at a young black American summit at the White House on Oct. 26, shortly after Cesar Sayoc, 56, was apprehended in Florida.

“These terrorizing acts are despicable and have no place in our country. I’ve instructed authorities to spare no resource or expense in finding those responsible and bringing them to swift and certain justice, and we will prosecute them, him, her, whoever it may be, to the fullest extent of the law.”

Trump said that political violence isn’t part of America and cannot be allowed to become a part of the country.

“We must never allow political violence to take root in America and I’m committed to doing everything in my power as president to stop it, and to stop it now,” he said.

Trump said he was briefed by the Department of Justice and said the FBI, Secret Service, the Department of Justice, the NYPD, and other law enforcement agencies worked together to track down the suspect. On Twitter, after the update, he said he wanted to applaud the law enforcement agencies “for their incredible work, skill, and determination.”

At the White House, Trump said he was impressed that the suspect was found so quickly. “It’s a needle in a haystack,” he said.

He also called for Americans to unify. “We must show the world that we are united together in peace and love and harmony as fellow American citizens. There is no country like our country, and every day we are showing the world just how truly great we are.”

A press conference by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and other top law enforcement officials was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. EDT to give more information about the case.

The investigation was launched after suspicious packages addressed to Obama, the Clintons, and other high-profile figures, mostly former or current Democrats, were discovered on Oct. 24. In total, some 13 packages sent to places mostly on the East Coast have been discovered.
