Being President of the United States comes with critique, but it definitely has its perks—just ask President Barack Obama.
Obama is set to receive an advance copy of “Game of Thrones” Season Six, according to show writers David Benioff and Dan Weiss.
During HBO’s Facebook Livestream at the “Game of Thrones” premiere event in Hollywood on April 10, Benioff and Weiss confirmed that Obama asked for an advance copy—to which they happily obliged.
“When the commander-in-chief says, ‘I want to see advanced episodes,’ what are you gonna do?” said Benioff.
It was a simple answer for Weiss. “Yes, he’s the leader of the free world.”
For the Emmy Award-winning duo, the request by Obama was outright surreal.
“I think, for both of us, finding out the president wanted advance copies of the episodes was an ‘ah-ha’ moment,” Weiss said. “That was a very strange moment.”
For the rest of us, who aren’t as lucky as the commander-in-chief, not many details have been released about the show—which Obama named as one of his favorites in 2015. HBO released a 30-second trailer to pacify the anticipation of fans in March, but hasn’t been much said since then.
Fans are anxious to find out what will happen to Jon Snow and the role women will play in the fantasy drama.
“Game of Thrones” returns to television screens on April 24.
