An explosion leveled a home in Port Orchard, Washington on Tuesday morning.

The explosion, which happened in the 3800-block of Soholt Lane just after 4 a.m., rocked residents across Kitsap County.

“It was loud and percussive and shook the house,” wrote local Kyran Riley on Facebook. “I thought at first someone was pounding at my back wall with a sledge hammer.”

People living as far away as Renton, nearly 20 miles away, heard the explosion.

The cause is still unclear at this time and is under investigation, South Kitsap Fire and Rescue officials wrote on Facebook.

“We can confirm an explosion at a residential structure that leveled the building,” they added.
