Cargo traffic at the Port of Los Angeles ground to a halt on Wednesday night after authorities were called to investigate a crate discovered with “bomb” spray-painted on the side of it.

The Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad and city firefighters investigated the crate but later called off the bomb scare when no explosives were found, according to KTLA television.

The ship carrying the crate was originally from Vietnam and stopped in Oakland before it reached Los Angeles. The city’s port is the busiest for container traffic in the United States.

“We see all sorts of cargo that’s inspected and odd things,” Phillip Sanfield, a port spokesperson told Reuters. However, it is “unusual to have that sort of graffiti on a container at the port,” he added.

The word bomb was spray-painted in a few places on the container, he added. According to the news agency, police said there were no bomb threats phoned in in relation to the incident.
