The Pope on Tuesday told Irish bishops involved in a child sex abuse scandal to come clean.

With the Catholic holiday of Lent coming up, Pope Benedict XVI had talks with 24 clergy leaders at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican due to a cover up surrounding the scandal, according to AP.

The crimes were not disclosed when the Irish Parliament requested evidence of the crimes, which prompted the Pope to address their mishaps, saying that it is a “heinous crime.”

The talks stemmed from a report, titled the “Murphy Commission,” that was recently released, which stated that between 1975 to 2004, the Church of Ireland concealed child abuse in Dublin. Four clergymen have resigned over the scandal.
