Cape Coral Police posted a video of officers and Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials responding to an alligator lying on the sidewalk.

“The responding officer found the gator motionless on the sidewalk and requested the assistance” of the FWC, the department wrote on Sept. 7.

“A registered trapper arrived on scene and took custody of the very alive gator,” police said.

“This could have been very dangerous for an unsuspecting nighttime jogger. Thanks to the citizen that called this into the Police Department,” according to the department.

Giant Alligator Caught

It comes as two Florida men pulled in a giant, 750-pound alligator in Gulf County, local news website MyPanhandle reported.

“He fought so hard. We finally got him up to the boat, got him with a harpoon, put a couple big snatch hooks in him. The first thing we saw was his tail. But his tail, that didn’t do him any justice. Once we got the other hook in him and saw his head, we were more or less scared than we were happy at this moment,” said Brandon Barfield to the website.

Both he and Brandon Cutchins, licensed alligator hunters, caught the alligator at 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 2.

They plan on using the meat and hide of the alligator.

“We’re going to eat the meat and probably get some things made out of the hide and mount the head,” said Cutchins to My Panhandle.
