MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—Police have issued a silver alert for a 7-month-old boy who may have been with his father when the man jumped from a Connecticut bridge.

Police were searching the Connecticut River between Middletown and Portland for the child Monday. Police say 22-year-old Tony Morano, of Middletown, called someone about 11:45 p.m. Sunday, saying he would jump from the Arrigoni Bridge. That person contacted police and said a baby could be heard in the background.

Police say they saw Morano jump into the river, but did not see a baby with him.

Middletown firefighters pulled him from the water and transported him to Hartford Hospital where he is in serious condition. The infant is still missing.

Police say they have been interviewing Morano’s family to see if the child is with them.
