Police in Raleigh, North Carolina, released body camera footage of an officer shooting at a car.

A car was reported stolen from the 1000 block of North King Charles Boulevard, and police attempted a traffic stop before 4:30 p.m., ABC11 reported.

Sgt. S.A. Brown activated his lights and got out of the police car and gave commands to the driver.

The suspect, Ronie Demitri Hyman, 22, tried to speed away from Brown and another officer, J.C. Vucich.

Officials told ABC11 that Vucich thought Hyman was trying to hit him with the vehicle. Vucich then drew his gun and opened fire on the car.

Hyman was not shot in the incident, according to the report.

However, the chase resulted in a fiery crash Western Boulevard near Gorman Street, according to local reports.

“Hey, let’s try to get fire department here,” an officer says over the radio, according to CBS17.  “Car still has flames coming out of it. We’re going to be secure here in about 30 seconds. Hopefully we can get handcuffs on him.”

Keesh Jackson, a witness, said that she had to swerve out of the way. “He was about to hit my passenger side, so I had to move out of the way some,” Jackson told the ABC affiliate. “Every time he turned, the police turned so it was like I just in a circle. I couldn’t go anywhere. I was scared because I almost lost my life in a matter of seconds.”

The suspect was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, felony speed to elude, hit and run, and careless as well as reckless driving, according to the report. Last month, Hyman’s attorney said he’s a danger to himself and the public.

“We’ve been trying to figure him out for a couple years and we haven’t quite gotten there,” said assistant district attorney Howard Cummings.

The Wake County District Attorney is now investigating the police shooting, and the Internal Affairs Division of the Raleigh Police Department is also investigating, CBS17 reported.
