Toronto police have arrested a teen boy after an armed carjacking in Etobicoke ended with a car crash on the Gardiner Expressway.

Police said around 5 p.m. on Sunday a man named Eddy, who lives on Deanecourt Road near the East Mall and Rathburn Road, saw a male, believed to be 16 or 17 years old, trying to steal his neighbour’s car.

Eddy tried to stop the suspect by driving his car over to block the neighbours’ driveway. The suspect then allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened Eddy, then carjacked his car instead.

According to the police, the suspect got into a collision near Lake Shore Boulevard and Kipling Avenue overnight. He managed to leave the scene and continued driving the stolen car.

The suspect then got into another crash when he hit a guardrail on the Gardiner Expressway near the Humber River just after midnight, police said.

The suspect was arrested after a tow truck driver who reportedly responded first to the scene prevented the boy from leaving until the police arrived.

Police said the suspect is facing charges.
