Vallejo police admitted that they made a mistake by not responding quickly enough to a call that two young children were in danger of falling on Sept. 11 from the second story of a building.

Police received the call at about 7 p.m. about the situation in the 300 block of Virginia Street, Lt. Jason Potts said.

“First and foremost we are grateful the children were not injured,” Potts said.

The children were as young as 2 years old. Potts said the call was not properly prioritized.

“We’re acknowledging this as a mistake,” Potts said.

Police are currently investigating how and why the response was slow and police will make the necessary changes to procedures and protocols so that it doesn’t happen again.

Potts also said officers will be following up with the parents of the children.
