A young boy got a hold of a shotgun and shot himself in the head with it, police in Texas said after responding on Wednesday night, Jan. 24.
The incident in East Fort Worth took place around 9:45 p.m.
When officers arrived at the home, they found the boy dead from the gunshot wound, reported CBS Dallas.
The 3-year-old boy was later identified as Jonnie Colon.
The apartment complex on Lawnwood where Colon was found was not his home.
Investigators said they are determining whether the death was accidental or deliberate, and why the boy was at the complex, which is about six miles from his home.
The child’s mother was rushed to the hospital after reporting chest pains, reported WBAP.
The Star-Telegram reported that no arrests have been made as of yet.
