Pokemon X and Y are now the official versions of the Pokemon games that will be used at Nintendo’s Pokemon Championships.

Until now, Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 were the official versions used in the Championships.

Nintendo is hosting five Regional Championships this month. The winners will be invited to participate in the U.S. National Championships. Winners of the U.S. National Championships will be invited to participate in the 2014 Pokemon World Championships which will take place in August in Washington, D.C.

Anybody with a Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo DS and either Pokemon X or Pokemon Y can enter into the contest. Alternatively, one can participate in the trading card game (TCG) Championships if one has a legal TCG deck.

The dates and locations of the five regional events are as follows:

Doswell, VA - January 11th-12th - (TCG both days, Video Game Jan. 12th only)

Long Beach, CA - January 18th-19th - (TCG both days, Video Game Jan. 19th only)

Salem, OR - January 18th-19th - (TCG both days, Video Game Jan. 19th only)

St. Charles, MO - January 18th-19th - (TCG both days, Video Game Jan. 18th only)

Orlando, FL - January 25th-26th - (TCG both days, Video Game Jan. 26th only)

According to Pokemon’s official site, winners of the contest can win booster packs, trophies, and money.
