Player’s dad banned: John Tomic has been banned from sitting in the players’ enclosure at the French Open, but will still watch his 20-year-old son Bernard by paying to get into the match.

A spokesman for the International Tennis Federation told the Australian that the older Tomic isn’t prohibited from “being a member of the general public,” though he is banned from obtaining official accreditation and sitting with other family members and friends of players.

There are other outlets reporting that Tomic won’t be allowed in even if he tries paying, such as AFP.

Bernard Tomic has been accused of assaulting his son’s training partner on May 4 in Madrid, which is the reason for the partial or full ban.

French Open officials told AFP that staff at the match have been told to not let Tomic in.

French federation spokesman Christophe Proust told the Associated Press that officials had taken “maximum precautions” to not let the elder Tomic into the Roland Garros complex.
