UPDATE at 3 p.m. ET: “We still have a gunman that is out there,” Lt. Catherine Buckley told the Denver Post of the situation.  “We were looking out the window and we had an officer wave us back inside,” Brigitte Wolfe, a witness, told the Denver Post. “They have everything blocked off.”

The man, according to USA Today, opened fired through windows and injured at least four people.

“Rounds are coming through the window,” one police officer told the dispatcher, per the publication.

At least one patient was wounded at Elite Vision, an eye care and vision center near the Planned Parenthood office.

“We have another officer down by the dumpster,” another police officer said.

Police added that the area is “not secure.”

“Centennial and Fillmore active shooter scene is not secure,” Colorado Springs police wrote on Twitter. “Shopping Center shelter in place.”

A manager at the King Soopers grocery store said employees were being told to shelter in place, reported NBC News.

Police closed Centennial Boulevard in both directions.

According to local The Gazette newspaper, an officer said the gunman shot out the back window of his cruiser as he tried to “get a look at him.”

A dispatcher said the gunman was wearing a long coat and a hunting-style cap. Currently, the weather in Colorado Springs is cold and snowy.

A witness spoke to CNN about the scene.

“They’re hiding right behind a barricade with their shields,” Wolfe said of the responding police.

She said that around 1,000 people were in the vicinity of the shooting.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department tweeted about the shooter situation at around 11:45 a.m., according to reports.

Amid Planned Parenthood controversy

Planned Parenthood gives HIV and STD screenings, hands out birth control, and it does general health consultations for men and women. Some also perform pregnancy tests and abortions.

Planned Parenthood has faced unprecedented criticism in the wake of an undercover operation that was carried out by anti-abortion group, the Center for Medical Progress. According to the Washington Post, the group spent nearly three years infiltrating Planned Parenthood clinics to produce videos.
