New images show the terrifying moment a small plane crashed at Kennesaw State University’s (KSU’s) campus in Georgia around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018.
The crash happened near Frey Lake Road at the intersection of Bartow Avenue and Campus Loop Road, according to the KSU Office of Emergency Management (OEM) in a Twitter post.
The plane crashed into a tree, according to the video a witness provided.
Two people who were on the plane are conscious and alert. They are recovering at an area hospital.
A graduate student of the university, Abby Rodriguez, took the video of one of the plane occupants waving his hand after the crash.
“I just thought it was a bridge that collapsed. We went to the parking lot, and I thought it was an explosion,” she said.
There are neither reports of any damage to the buildings, nor injuries to the students or staff of the university, OEM said.
Megan Allen, another graduate student of the university, described the crash as sounding like a deafening boom, AJC reported.
“It almost sounded like I-75 was collapsing ... It was so loud it was hard to comprehend what happened,” Allen said.
Federal agencies are investigating the crash, Cobb County Police said. A portion of the campus may be closed for the investigation.
Tammy DeMel, assistant vice president of communications at the university, said the campus will open as normal no later than Friday, Nov. 30.
