Pizza Delivery Driver Killed While Helping Elderly Assault Victim

STANTON, Calif.—A pizza deliveryman was fatally shot after coming to the aid of a 76-year-old assault victim who was also shot, authorities said June 29.

The shootings were reported at about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday near Lessue Avenue and Santa Rosalia Street, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Juan Cristalinas, 49, of Santa Ana died at a hospital, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Todd Hylton said.

Cristalinas was delivering a pizza in the area when he saw a 76-year-old man being assaulted and attempted to intervene, Hylton told City News Service.

Cristalinas and the other man were both shot, Hylton said. The other man was hospitalized in stable condition, the sergeant added.
