At least four pilot whales are dead and another three dozen are beaching themselves off the Florida Everglades coast

According to News4Jax, the whales are stranded in Everglades City.

Photos published online show the immobile whales in shallow water.

Marine officials are attempting to determine why the whales are beaching themselves, reported CBS Miami.

Linda Friar, an official with the Everglades National Park, told CBS that only around 10 whales actually beached themselves on Tuesday. Approximately six were sent back to the water.

Local station 10 News reported that four of the whales are dead.
