In recent weeks, torrential rains have resulted in massive flooding throughout central, southern and eastern China. Millions of people in multiple provinces have been affected, and hundreds are dead. The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River have swelled to overrun dikes, roads, farms, and electrical infrastructure.

Adding to this is the typhoon Nepartak, which has dropped 250 millimeters of rain (about 10 inches) on Taiwan and in the province of Fujian, where 47,000 people living on coastal areas have been evacuated.
