March 14, also written as 3/14, is celebrated as Pi Day around the world because the Greek letter “π” is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant—the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159, according to the Pi Day website.

“Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point,” the website states. “As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern.” Happy Pi Day!

If you hold a mirror up to Pi, 3.14, it spells Pie, reports PieDay.org.
