PORT JERVIS—It wasn’t sunny, but it was another year of dry weather for Port Jervis’s Fireman’s Inspection Day Parade on July 9. The parade is famous for two things: 166 years of good weather and being the longest continuous fireman’s parade in the country. Cloudy skies and the threat of a storm were enough to keep about 20 percent of the participants away though, estimates Mike Bernstein, one of the parade’s judges. Nevertheless, the parade had fire companies from all around the county, the state, and nearby states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and the rain held off till after the parade was over.
