A massive dust cloud is approaching Phoenix on Tuesday evening, according to local reports. The storm is affecting the I-10 corridor.

A dust storm warning was issued until 5 p.m. for the Greater Phoenix area, said local officials, according to KPHO-TV.

Residents and drivers are urged to watch out for winds with gusts up to 45 mph in Maricopa, Queen Creek and Chandler counties, the Weather Service said.

“Motorists on area roads could experience brief periods of strong gusty winds and drastic reductions in visibility,” the agency said.

KPHO reported that the storm is impacting Interstate 10 between Casa Grande and Phoenix.

Weather officials told AZCentral.com that the dust storm will bring down visibility to a quarter of a mile.

Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer Carrick Cook told the broadcaster there have been at least five crashes due to the storm. There were no injuries.

“We are asking everyone who generates dust to take extra precautions to minimize emissions throughout the event,” ADEQ Air Quality Division Director Eric Massey told the website.
