The Big Sur Fire, also known as the Pfeiffer Fire, is blazing in California’s Los Padres National Forest, destroying at least 10 homes and threatening another over 100.

The fire has prompted the precautionary closure of nearby Andrew Molera State Park after starting at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night, reported the Monterey County Herald.

The fire has burned about 500 acres.

Captain Cooper Elementary School was evacuated, also as a precaution.

A mandatory evacuation order was issued about 9:45 a.m. by CalFire officials for Sycamore Canyon, Clear Ridge and Pfeiffer Ridge.
